MENTORING

Does Mentoring Really Work?

Literally, you can make all the difference in the world to a young person. Mentoring is recognised as the most effective means of reaching out to young people today and giving them a new sense of purpose and direction.
  What is the Commitment?

The programme runs for twelve months and you are asked to spend two hours a week with your mentee. You choose together what to do; the idea is to have a rewarding and fun time.

What Does a Mentor Do?
You are there to help a young person by:

  • Supporting them through an
        on-going one-to-one relationship
  • Being a positive role model
  • Building a relationship by planning     and participating in activities     together
  • Striving for mutual respect
  • Motivating and building self-esteem
  • Helping set goals and realising     them
  • Being a "real" friend
  •   Do I Need a Professional Qualification?

Definitely NOT. You are there as a friend to encourage, not as
a counsellor. You just need a passion to help young people.

    What's in it for You

The programme obviously aims to help young
people but without exception mentors say
it is one of the most rewarding experiences
of their life. Many learn as much about
themselves as they do the young people
    they support.
